Job Title: Part-time Seasonal Farmhand

Job Overview:

 

*Note: this is a seasonal position that runs from April through October 2025 (schedule can be adjusted in the fall if needed). Opportunity to come back next spring as early as February if interested to work February through October. 

 

Dogwood is hiring! We are looking for a dependable and hardworking individual to join Dogwood as a summer farmhand on our cut flower farm. This person would be Kendra's righthand person each day.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced outdoor environment. Candidate must be reliable, as we make decisions around when we will have help. *Waitresses, teachers and stay-at-home parents returning to the working world are encouraged to apply - we see how capable you all are!*

 

We are willing to train the right person if you have no previous experience with plants. Personality fit, work ethic, trainability and reliability are what we are looking for on our small family farm.

Candidate must be comfortable working outside in all conditions. We are out in the field when it is 30* and in wind and rain. We also work in the fields in the high heat of the summer. 90* days at Dogwood are no joke!

*Only hiring adults (18+) at this time. Please note that a background check is required for this position. Must have reliable transportation. 

​

Pay: $14-17/hr, depending on experience

 

Schedule - 24 hours/week, possible to expand to 40 if desired. 

Schedule below, but can adjust the set schedule for the right person:

​

Monday: 8:00am-4:00pm

Wednesday: 8:00am-4:00pm

Friday: 8:00am-4:00pm

​

Potential Responsibilities:

  • Seeding: Start seedlings in trays

  • Planting: Plant seedlings and plants in the field (even if it's cold!)

  • Harvesting: Harvest blooms, ensuring that flowers are picked at the optimal stage of maturity and quality

  • Processing: Process and prepare harvested flowers for market, including trimming stems, removing foliage, and sorting blooms.

  • Weeding: We have lots of weeds here. lol

  • Irrigation: We drag a lot of hoses around and set up a lot of sprinklers!

  • Feeding: We spray organic fish fertilizer on our crops (and yes, it does smell like fish, but the plants love it so we deal with it)

  • Bouquet-Making: Learn to make bouquets quickly and efficiently

  • Landscaping: Mowing/weed whacking if needed

  • Equipment Operation: Operate farm equipment as needed such as tractors, tillers, and hand tools safely and efficiently with training

  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including planting dates, harvest yields, and any issues encountered.

  • Flower event assistance: We host events on and off our farm and may need assistance managing setup/takedown, customer questions, money or parking 

  • General Farm Duties: Assist with various other farm tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with plants is preferred but not required.

  • Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.

  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn and follow farm protocols.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to take direction

  • Comfortable with animals (we have chickens, ducks, goats, sheep and dogs who are out and about during our work day)
